Upon arrival to Costa Rica, gather your luggage, make your way through customs and exit the Liberia Airport (LIR).

For those who want a ride, we will provide an airport shuttle pick up from the Liberia Airport to our hotel at 4:00pm. For early/late arrivals, you may add on an airport shuttle and we will arrange a car to pick you up.

We’ll head into the mountains to a local eco-lodge, get settled in, then meet the group for happy hour, a bike building party, and a welcome dinner in the main lodge.

WATERFALLS & ZIPLINES

Start your morning with a buffet breakfast filled with locally sourced organic fruits and veggies and made-to-order omelets. Don’t forget to try the gallo pinto, a traditional breakfast dish of rice and beans. It goes great with eggs!

We start today with a mellow ride (estimated 1-hour climb) to provide everyone the chance to acclimate to the tropical climate. Bring lots of water and electrolyte replacements as you’ll definitely break a sweat!

We'll swim at the base of a gorgeous waterfall, then enjoy a fun flowy downhill back to the hotel. After lunch at the hotel, the afternoon will be spent on an exciting zipline adventure through the canopy of the rainforest.

We’ll start today with an early breakfast and then gear up for a big point-to-point ride. This ride is full of flowy singletrack with a couple technical climbs and descents. Our ride will end at a beautiful river where we will cool off and then have a picnic in the sunshine.

Then we’ll load up and travel to to one of our favorite places, a luxury 4-star eco lodge with natural hot springs. This award winning boutique hotel has Two Michelin Keys, a full-service spa, a locally sourced restaurant, AND unique mountain bike trails.

Spend the rest of your day relaxing in the natural hot springs and then enjoy an excellent dinner in the lodge.

RIDE. SOAK. STRETCH. EAT. SLEEP. REPEAT.

Today's morning adventure is a half-day ride out the back door of the hotel. This region is a dry rainforest eco-system with volcanic rock features, which provide interesting trail sections to session and play on. We’ll session some cool areas and play with our climbing and descending on technical volcanic rock.

After returning to the hotel, spend the remainder of the afternoon as you like. Go tubing down the nearby river canyon, soak in the natural pools, or relax and unwind with an organic spa treatment. Top off this incredible day with a relaxing sunset yoga session in the rainforest.

Ride Data:
Distance: 5 miles / 8 km
Elevation Gain: 840ft / 256m

VAMOS A LA PLAYA!

Awake to the sounds of the jungle today. Birds singing in the trees and Howler Monkeys calling is a classic start to the morning at this eco resort. There will be an optional yoga class offered before breakfast and then you can spend the rest of your morning at the pool.

Late morning, we’ll pack up the van and head to the ocean! A few hours of travel across the plains and we'll arrive to our hotel, just minutes from the beach. We'll get checked in, have a quick lunch, then you'll have the rest of the day to relax on the beach, chill by the pool, and settle in to your new surroundings.

Today we will head out at sunrise to ride a trail system near Playa Avellanas. A couple climbing track options provide access to a series of downhill trails ranging from green to black in difficulty. Our crew will link together a variety of laps and loops, then head to the beach to jump in the ocean and cool off.

We'll return to the hotel late morning for brunch and then you may spend the remainder of the day as you choose. *Option to take a surf lesson or rent a boogie board and play in the surf!

Ride Data:
Distance: 10-15 miles / 16-24km

OCEAN VIEW RIDES & SUP THE SEA

We head out at sunrise again today with coffee and pastries in the van. We’ll spend the morning riding a big loop on the beachfront trails of Las Catalinas. With super flowy singletrack and incredible views of the coastline below, this place is worth getting up early for. Our ride will end with a refreshing dip in the ocean and time to relax on the beach.

We'll spend the remainder of the afternoon at the beach. There are stand up paddle boards and kayaks available for rent, for those interested, and this small bay is the perfect spot for it. It is also a great spot for swimming or just relaxing by the sea with a cold beverage.

Return to the hotel to freshen up, then join the group for a final dinner together. We'll have a table reserved and spend the evening swapping photos and Instagram handles. Stoked to spend this week with you!

This trip is for any women⁺ intermediate riders looking to experience all the best that Costa Rica has to offer, while also mountain biking fun trails each day. The riding is pure blue intermediate. We will ride every morning, have excellent lunches, and spend each afternoon on Costa Rica adventures. When we are in the mountains we will swim in waterfalls, zipline, relax in hot springs, and get massages. When we are at the beach, we will also ride each morning (and one sunset ride!) and, in the afternoons, we will SUP and kayak, do sunset yoga, and relax with cocktails by the pool.

This is one of our flagship trips and is truly a perfect Costa Rican mountain bike vacation for the ladies!

The rides will mostly be half day rides with additional activities available in the afternoon. Most rides will be completed in 3-4 hours.

This itinerary takes place in Guanacaste, which is a very hot region of the country. For the most part, we will ride every morning and do an activity around water in the afternoon (SUPing, relaxing by the beach, river floating, etc.).

In general, you can expect hot sunny days in Costa Rica. Typical year round temperatures range from 80-90F (26-32C) during the day and only dropping a few degrees in the evenings. You will need very light, quick drying biking clothes for each day. Refer to the suggested packing list for detailed information on what to bring. You will also be able to leave items in our van each day so you can have back up supplies if needed throughout the day.

Yes, it is very hot and humid in Costa Rica. We recommend all riders should be prepared to carry 2-3L of water on them each day.

Our crew will have some snacks available, however, it is up to each participant to provide their own personal snacks and electrolyte replacement tabs and/or chews while riding. There are stores in Costa Rica where these can be purchased, however, it is recommended that you bring a supply of your favorite items from home as the selection in Costa Rica can be limited.

All of our trips can cater to most dietary needs, however, make sure you tell us in advance so our team can be properly prepared. After you book your spot, we will ask you to complete your profile to notify us of any dietary needs or allergies.

Once you’re in Costa Rica, there are a variety of food options available at all restaurants to cater to most diets. The typical plate in Costa Rica is called a Casado and is a plate with rice, beans, salad and a protein (beef, chicken, fish, or fresh cheese for vegetarians). Whole foods, fresh meats, fruits and vegetables are easy to come by everywhere you go. When eating at restaurants, our group will always choose venues that are happy to cater to a variety of dietary needs.

This is a traveling trip. We will stay in three different hotels. You’ll want to bring luggage that is easy to pack and carry around. A rugged duffel bag about 70-100L in size is highly recommended (with or without wheels).

Absolutely! Our guides will be there to help you build your bike at the start of the trip and pack it up at the end. We will have tools available and we’re very experienced in assembling and packing bikes. We’ll gladly give you tips and help you out during the entire process.

Note that trip insurance is required for all riders on any Ride the Earth tour. You must provide proof of policy prior to departure. We recommend World Nomads to provide you with affordable trip insurance. They offer excellent coverage for mountain bikers.

Although tipping is completely up to your discretion, it is customary to provide gratuity for guides and drivers. A typical gratuity for your expert mountain bike guides is 5-10% of your trip cost per person and 2-5% for drivers. This may be given to the lead guide on your trip or to each person individually.
